The Story of the Umiian Glyphs
In 2011, As I traveled through China, I began to doodle in a notebook. Instead of numbering each page with a standard number, I created ten symbols to replace the numbers (0,1,2,3..) throughout the book. When I returned to the States in 2012, I moved on from numbers and began to craft a set of symbols that could replace the English Alphabet. Over the course of a year, I created and refined the 26 symbols, and named them the Umiian Glyphs.
But over the months of 2012, the Umiian Glyphs would evolve from simple shapes that could replace the english Alphabet, to a detailed set of hieroglyphics that each represented a different aspect of a person’s life.
Together, the 26 Umiian Glyphs represent a person’s full potential. Some of the glyphs might represent aspects of yourself that you excel at. While others might represent aspects you neglect. You can explore the meaning of each glyph below.
